Americans can travel to 108 countries right now. However, travel restrictions for US citizens depend on the destination and on your vaccination status. I recommend checking our guide on where can vaccinated Americans travel in case you have already received your second dose.
As of today, American tourists can travel to 24 countries without COVID-19 restrictions. While US travelers are only required to present pre-trip COVID test results to travel to 62 countries, Americans are subject to mandatory quarantine for 22 other international destinations.
Although, in this guide, you will learn where Americans can travel now, bear in mind that the US government advises against traveling unless it is strictly necessary.
In addition to the American travel restrictions that you will find in this guide, which we update daily, I recommend checking the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website if you want to know the safest countries for American travelers.
On the following map of countries open to US citizens, you will find all the places Americans can travel to right now.
We’ve sorted the countries Americans can travel to by entry requirements.
If you’re wondering where to get a quick PCR test for travel in the United States, we have written a specific guide on that.
I’d like to point out that it’s essential to have travel insurance that covers COVID-19, whether or not it’s an entry requirement for your destination (although many countries already include it in their entry requirements).
Also, these new COVID-19 entry restrictions do not exempt travelers from needing a valid tourist visa if it was already required before the pandemic. You can check whether you need a visa to travel below.
Additionally, keep in mind that some countries may go into lockdown after opening their borders to tourism. We have written specific guides for all the places Americans can travel to, where you can find out the current situation in the country, if there is a lockdown or curfew mandates in place, and if hotels, restaurants, and attractions are open to tourism.
Below, you can see where Americans can travel to, as well as entry requirements for US Citizens and important information to consider.
