Hello, I’m Jordan McInally, a Kiwi astro and landscape photographer from Queenstown, New Zealand.
Growing up surrounded by the Southern Alps, dramatic lakes, and some of the darkest skies in the world, I developed a deep connection with the outdoors from an early age. Over the years, I’ve explored and photographed New Zealand extensively, from its classic locations to lesser known corners, including months spent living in a van and chasing light across the country.
My interest in photography began after joining a friend for a night session and watching them capture a beautiful moonlit landscape. I never forgot that moment. A few years later, I bought my first camera, a Canon 60D, and started teaching myself landscape and astrophotography.
I quickly fell in love with photographing the night sky. Seeing the colours, textures, and details of both the stars and the landscape come to life felt completely addictive, and that passion has shaped my work ever since.
Today, I specialize in wide field panoramic astro and landscape photography, especially 360° panoramas with flowing, immersive compositions. I also love including people in my night images, particularly through couples and wedding astrophotography.
Over the years, I’ve spent countless hours refining my editing workflow in Photoshop, Lightroom, and Autopano Giga. My style is bright, colourful, and expressive, while still aiming to preserve the feeling of being there under the night sky.
I also have experience leading photography workshops, as well as walking and e bike tours. Teaching is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. I love breaking down techniques, adapting to different learning styles, and seeing others succeed with their own images.
When I’m not photographing or teaching, I’m usually mountain biking, skateboarding, playing disc golf, slacklining, highlining, or creating art through sacred geometry, murals, drumming, and fire spinning.
Here’s a breakdown of my essential photography equipment:
