There are many beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura where you can enjoy the sun, sand, and sea. Whether you want to sunbathe, go swimming, or practice some water sports, this is one of the best islands in Spain to do so.
While there are many things to do in Fuerteventura, visiting one of the beaches is a popular activity since they’re clean, tranquil, and absolutely stunning. In fact, going to the beach in Fuerteventura is something you must do in Spain, and we always make time to hit the beach when we visit this Canary Island. Besides, there are some beaches in Fuerteventura where you can camp.
If you’re not sure which one to visit, I’ll share the 10 best beaches in Fuerteventura in this guide. I’ll tell you what to expect from each one, and I’ll share a Fuerteventura beaches map so you can see where they’re located on the island.
1. Cofete Beach, one of the best beaches in Fuerteventura
Cofete Beach is one of the best beaches in Fuerteventura, as well as one of the most popular beaches in the Canary Islands.
The first time we visited Fuerteventura, we weren’t sure if we wanted to go to Cofete Beach since getting there is a bit complicated. It’s recommended that you take a 4wd car to drive there, but we decided to use our 2wd rental car, and while we did get there safely, it was quite difficult, so be sure to use an appropriate vehicle! You can make it easy on yourself by booking one of the top excursions in Fuerteventura, like this Jeep tour through Cofete Beach.
This is one of the wilder beaches in Fuerteventura since it’s on an isolated sandbank. The path leading to it is quite stunning but dangerous, as you have to traverse the Jandía mountain range, which has the highest peaks on the island. You’ll also have to descend the edge of a cliff, so not many people visit this beach.
Near Cofete Beach, you can see the Islote de las Siete Viudas, which borders the beach of Barlovento de Jandía. This is the most remote area of Cofete, so you can only reach it on foot. You can also see the Roque del Moro, a huge stone jutting out from the sea, as well as several tidal pools full of marine life. For all these reasons, it’s one of the top 10 beaches in Fuerteventura, and one of the overall best beaches in Spain.
2. Sotavento Beach, one of the best Fuerteventura beaches for water sports
Sotavento Beach is near the town of Pájara on the Jandía Peninsula and is one of the most impressive beaches on Fuerteventura.
Sotavento actually consists of several beaches, including Playa Barca, Risco del Paso, Los Canarios Beach, and Mal Nombre Beach. During our visit to this Fuerteventura beach, we walked from one end to the other, and it was one of the most tranquil and pleasant walks of our trip.
The Playa Barca section of this beach is popular with nudists if you want to sunbathe in the buff. There are also several areas that are perfect for families since the tide creates small, shallow pools where the kids can swim. Just keep in mind that there aren’t any lifeguards on duty here.
Many people also visit Sotavento Beach to surf, sail, and windsurf, so if you enjoy water sports, I recommend this place.
3. Grandes Playas de Corralejo, one of the calmest beaches on Fuerteventura
If you’re looking for a windless beach in Fuerteventura, check out the Grandes Playas (“Big Beaches”) de Corralejo. This is not just one of the main tourist places in Corralejo but one of the top places to see on the island and a great place to stay in Fuerteventura.
Corralejo is known for its impressive dunes, which have been designated as a protected park since 1994. In addition, here you’ll find some of the nicest white sand beaches in Fuerteventura. The soft sand and turquoise waters are very beautiful, but they also attract lots of tourists, so it’s not the quietest place to go. That said, you can find some more remote coves in the area.
The best thing about the Grandes Playas de Corralejo is that there is very little wind, so the tides are calm. The southern part of the beach is popular with nudists, while the northern part offers all kinds of services. If you want to go kitesurfing or windsurfing, check out Médano, the closest beach to Corralejo. We have an article with a lot of information about the best beaches in Corralejo.
Moreover, getting to this area is easy since there are lots of signs and parking areas. If you don’t have a vehicle, consider taking an organized day trip, like this buggy tour. We did this excursion and loved it!
4. Matorral Beach, one of the best beaches in Fuerteventura south
Matorral Beach is one of the best beaches in Fuerteventura’s southern region where you can swim, sunbathe, and practice water sports. It’s next to Morro Jable, a popular place to see dolphins and whales in Fuerteventura, so I highly recommend it.
This beach is made up of several beaches, some of which are touristy and others that are quieter and more private. The entire beach spans about 7.5 miles and offers services like chair and umbrella rentals as well as bars and restaurants.
Just behind the beach, you’ll find the Saladar de Jandía, a protected wetland with a variety of endemic flora and fauna. However, it’s a protected natural area, so you shouldn’t go walking through it.
5. Castillo Beach, a peaceful beach in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
Castillo Beach is another one of the best beaches in Fuerteventura. It’s in Caleta de Fuste, near an 18th-century fortress and declared Site of Cultural Interest.
This is the perfect beach for sunbathing and swimming since the waters here a very calm. In addition, the fine golden sand makes this one of the most beautiful beaches on Fuerteventura.
Unlike other beaches on the island, Castillo Beach is quite popular with tourists, especially in the summer. So, while there are crowds, there are also lots of convenient services like chair and umbrella rentals, restaurants, and parking lots. There are also nearby bus and taxi stops, so it’s a very accessible place.
If you decide to visit this Fuerteventura beach, keep in mind that the marina is very close by, and it’s a great place to go diving and windsurfing. You can even learn to surf by booking this activity.
6. La Concha Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura north
La Concha Beach is another top beach in Fuerteventura, as well as one of the most famous, thanks to its location in the town of El Cotillo.
Like several other beaches in Fuerteventura, La Concha Beach is made up of a series of coves, so it’s a quiet and peaceful place. It’s also very beautiful, especially at sunset, when the scenery takes on a golden glow. There are other stunning beaches in El Cotillo, so save a couple of days to explore this town.
Moreover, there is a natural horseshoe-shaped reef here, so the surf is quite calm. So, if you’re looking for a northern Fuerteventura beach to visit with kids, this is a great choice. You’ll find shallow pools between the rocks where the children can safely swim and play.
Finally, this is one of the most accessible beaches on the island with a parking lot. There are also lots of nearby restaurants, cafes, and bars, as well as lifeguards on duty.
7. Costa Calma Beach, another one of the top beaches on Fuerteventura
Costa Calma Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Jandía. It’s in La Lajita, a touristy area in the southern part of the island.
This beach has a coastline that stretches for about 1.2 miles, making it one of the largest beaches in Fuerteventura. It’s the ideal place to take a relaxing stroll, as the fine white sand and turquoise waters create a lovely scene.
Costa Calma Beach is also a great spot for a family vacation, and the southern areas of the beach are good for surfing. In addition, you’ll find lots of modern services like chair and umbrella rentals, lifeguards, and stations where you can book activities and excursions. If you’re short on time, I recommend this buggy tour to get a quick overview of Costa Calma.
8. Los Charcos Beach, a gorgeous white sand beach in Fuerteventura
Not far from El Cotillo, you’ll find Los Charcos Beach, one of the quietest beaches in Fuerteventura.
This beach, which is next to the El Tostón Lighthouse, consists of three small coves separated by stone walls. These natural pools create a calmer and more tranquil place than a typical beach, and the crystal clear waters make it one of the most beautiful spots on the island.
If you want to visit this Fuerteventura beach, you’ll need a car since this place is somewhat isolated. Also, there aren’t any modern services or lifeguards. Even so, if you’re looking for a scenic place to disconnect and get away from the crowds, this is the best beach in Fuerteventura for you.
9. Ajuy Beach, another one of the best beaches in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
Ajuy Beach is next to the popular volcanic Ajuy Caves, making it one of the best beaches in Fuerteventura to visit.
This beach belongs to a Protected Natural Area made up of volcanic sand and is surrounded by calm waves, so it’s a beautiful place to get some fresh air, take a walk along the coast, or sunbathe. Not only that but there are some nearby seafood restaurants where you can try some typical Canarian dishes.
If you want to visit this Fuerteventura beach, I recommend visiting in the afternoon and hanging around until dusk so you can see one of the most spectacular sunsets on the island.
10. Playa Esmeralda, the best virgin beach in Fuerteventura
Playa Esmeralda is another beach on Fuerteventura that you can’t miss. It’s located between the beaches of Costa Calma and Sotavento, in the northern part of the island. It’s at the end of a dirt road, so you’ll need a car. However, if you can get there, you’ll be able to enjoy one of the quietest and most intimate beaches in the area.
This is also considered one of the best wild beaches in Fuerteventura, with lovely turquoise waters and pristine white sand. It’s also one of the best swimming beaches in Fuerteventura, and a great place to enjoy water sports like windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Moreover, despite its more secluded location, Playa Esmeralda has a beach bar, chair rentals, lifeguards, and other services. It’s also one of the top places on the island where you can sunbathe in the nude.
That’s it for the best beaches in Fuerteventura! I encourage you to visit as many of these beautiful places as you can, and I’m leaving a Fuerteventura beach map to help you easily locate them all.
