60 Things to Do in Las Vegas (Nevada) – Best Places to Visit

If you're traveling in 2020, check which travel insurance covers for coronavirus (test and treatment abroad).

There are many interesting things to do in Las Vegas. It is the largest city in Nevada and receives millions of visitors every year. With a wide variety of leisure options, such as music, theater, circus, magic, gambling, betting, weddings, family fun, excursions and much more, it is one of the largest entertainment centers in the world.

However, the best thing about Las Vegas is that it’s on the West Coast, surrounded by breathtaking national parks. At first, we thought of visiting the city in passing, as our flight landed there to begin our 10-day West Coast USA road trip. Our initial idea was to spend as little time as possible in the city, get our rental car, and start our adventure through the American West. But thankfully, we changed our mind and decided to stay long enough to get to know the most important places to visit in Las Vegas.

To give you a little background, this area was sparsely inhabited and it wasn’t until 1905 when Las Vegas became a city thanks to the arrival of the railroad. But it wasn’t until 1931 when gaming became legalized, that LV began its growth and transformation. At that time, the first hotels in Vegas were built.

Also known as Sin City, it continuously increases its entertainment offerings. Today there are endless things to do in Las Vegas, and it doesn’t matter what your preferences are because you will find everything.

As for the nightlife, you can enjoy it with the discreet complicity of those who are willing to offer you everything you want. I’m sure you know the saying “what happens in Las Vegas, stays in Las Vegas.”

One of the best ways to access the main attractions is by buying the Go Las Vegas card, which you pay for according to the number of days you are staying and which includes admission to 27 of the best attractions in Vegas. Another very popular tourist card is the Las Vegas Explorer Pass. This one is more flexible because you can choose 3, 5 or 7 attractions of the 32 that are covered and get a discount of up to 55% off. The latter can be used within 30 days from its activation. We ultimately decided on the Go Las Vegas card.

Now, let’s look at the 60 most important places to visit in Las Vegas.

1. BELLAGIO, the most luxurious resort and casino to visit in Las Vegas

The Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas, inspired by beautiful Italy, was opened in 1998 and cost $1,600 million to build. Rated 5 diamonds, it is located in the center of The Strip and is one of the places to visit in Las Vegas that I recommend.

In addition, the Bellagio hotel offers the O show, from the famous Cirque du Soleil, and one of the most famous free events in Las Vegas, the Bellagio Water Show.

2. Las Vegas Strip, the best place to go in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Strip is a stretch of about 5 miles within Las Vegas Boulevard and is, without a doubt, one of the main places to visit in Las Vegas.

On this avenue, you will find the best-known hotels and casinos in Las Vegas, in addition to the famous Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign, one of the most photographed places in the city.

3. Golden Nugget Las Vegas, a popular casino in Las Vegas

The Golden Nugget Las Vegas was built in 1946 and is the oldest and largest casino in the city center, making it one of the main attractions in Las Vegas. This casino-hotel has 1,914 luxury rooms and suites. In addition, it has maintained a 4 diamond rating since 1977.

3. Golden Nugget Las Vegas, a popular casino in Las Vegas

The history of this casino garnered such a reputation that in 2004, the series The Casino was created. This casino has appeared in movies such as The Grand, animated series like The Flintstones, and video games, such as Street Fighter II or Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

However, it is not the only casino in Las Vegas. Virtually any renowned hotel has its own casino so that gambling enthusiasts can have fun without going outside.

4. Attend a Lights Show, one of the best free things to do in Las Vegas

Many hotels offer free shows in Las Vegas, some of them even daily. Among all these shows, the light shows are the most magical ones.

One of the most beautiful ones is the Bellagio Water Show, in which more than 1,200 water jets are synchronized with music and lights.

Another show that you should include in your visit is the volcano eruption at the Mirage Hotel, which simulates an eruption and throws fireballs while playing the sounds of real volcanoes.

Another thing you can do in Las Vegas, although it doesn’t really strike my fancy, is go to the Silverton hotel aquarium. Here they offer a show with mermaids who perform all kinds of aquatic acrobatics with exotic fish of great size and bright colors.

And finally, I also recommend the Fall of Atlantis show inside the Forum Shops at Caesars, in which they use animatronic figures, sounds, fire, and water. Pretty cool!

5. best clubs for partying in Las Vegas, Nevada

Few things are comparable to a night in Las Vegas. The nightlife of this city offers you a huge choice of clubs, bars, and pubs.

If you’re deciding what to do in Las Vegas at night, I recommend the Omnia nightclub, the Drais, which has a terrace with a pool, and Light, which usually brings the best DJs.

However, before going partying in Las Vegas, you should keep in mind that, in the US, you need to be over 21 years old to be allowed to enter the clubs. Getting married is one of the most curious things to do in Las Vegas. Thousands of couples travel to this city every year to celebrate a themed wedding, which is one of the main attractions in Vegas.

Getting married in Las Vegas, a great thing to do in Las Vegas for couples

6. Elvis weddings in Las Vegas

To get married in Las Vegas, I recommend choosing the most famous chapel, Graceland, where the tradition began more than 50 years ago. Here, Elvis will accompany the bride to the altar and you can have an unforgettable ceremony. However, it is usually quite busy, so I advise you to book it well in advance.

Nevertheless, in Las Vegas, there are many other chapels where you can get married, and the big hotels also have their own. Other popular ones are the Chapel of the Flowers, winner of several awards, and Viva Las Vegas Weddings Chapel, which also offers themed weddings.

7. Fremont Street Experience, a must thing to do in Las Vegas

Fremont Street, in the historic center of LV, is also one of the places to visit in Vegas. The first hotels and casinos opened here.

However, The Strip stole the spotlight from this area a few years later. It was then that the hotels and casinos of the old city center created the Fremont Street Experience cooperative to offer a show every night and revive tourism in the old area of Las Vegas. And they got it.

I recommend attending one of the concerts held here, which are usually free. Without a doubt, just for its historical significance, the Fremont Street Experience is one of the main attractions in Las Vegas.

8. High Roller in Las Vegas, the highest observation wheel in the world

The High Roller is the tallest panoramic Ferris wheel in the world at 167 meters tall. It is on The Linq Promenade, a leisure area full of restaurants and shops on the Las Vegas Strip, opposite Caesars Palace.

The SlotZilla Zip Line, meanwhile, is a slot-machine-inspired zip line. There, you can choose between 2 heights to zip across.

However, the most spectacular zip line is undoubtedly the Bootleg Canyon Zipline, whose route, about 2.4 kilometers, goes from the top of the Red Mountain to its base and passes over the Mojave Desert. For me, it’s the best one!

If you don’t know what to visit near Las Vegas, one of the things I recommend is the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, where you can appreciate the beauty of the desert.

12. Grand Canyon, a great excursion to do in Las Vegas, Nevada

For me, the best way to see it is by taking a Grand Canyon helicopter tour. That way, you can get the best views of the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River from up above, an experience that you absolutely cannot miss out on.

The beauty and majesty of the place will leave you speechless. If you don’t want to drive to it, here is my selection of the best Grand Canyon tours from Las Vegas. Specifically, this is the my favorite one since it also allows you to land at the bottom of the canyon. An unbeatable experience!

If flying is not your thing and you’re afraid of heights, there are also bus tours that visit the South Rim, which does belong to the national park area.

Neon Museum, an interesting museum to visit in Las Vegas

14. Neon Museum, a popular attraction in Las Vegas

This curious museum has its origin in the way neon signs arrived at Las Vegas establishments. The Young Electric Sign Company (YESCO), founded in 1920, rented ads instead of selling them.

When a poster was removed to replace it, they returned it to YESCO, and the owners, instead of destroying them, kept them, especially the most striking ones. Because the posters weren’t stored well, the passage of time was causing them to deteriorate. It was in 1996 when a non-profit organization recovered them and created the Neon Museum in Las Vegas, where all those posters that are part of the city’s history are now exhibited.
