Jandía’s Beaches are renowned for their paradisiacal beauty and for being some of the most impressive beaches on the entire island of Fuerteventura. If you love the sea or if you’re already daydreaming about your next vacation, envisioning yourself on the fine sandy shores and swimming in the turquoise waters, then this guide is for you.
While there are many must-see attractions in Jandía, most tourists are attracted by its extensive beaches and breathtaking landscapes. I had the opportunity to explore numerous beaches across the Island, and I can assure you that the best ones are found right here. Most of these beaches retain their natural, unspoiled environment, which explains why they are so stunning.
So, if you’re exploring the best attractions in Fuerteventura and want to unwind by the shore, read on to learn all about the best beaches in Jandía, along with key details about each.
1. Costa Calma Beach, one of the best beaches in Jandia, Fuerteventura
The beach of Costa Calma is one of the best beaches in Jandía that you can visit. Costa Calma is located in the town of La Lajita in the southern part of Fuerteventura. Despite its popularity, you can always enjoy a quiet day on its 1.3-mile stretch of white sand.
Personally, I think it is one of the best beaches in Fuerteventura to share a pleasant moment with the family or as a couple since it has all the necessary amenities, including umbrellas, beach bars, and lifeguards. Also, to the south of the beach, you will find an area with ideal conditions for water sports, so you will always have something exciting to do.
I recommend dedicating a full day of your Fuerteventura itinerary to appreciate the unique landscape of Playa Costa Calma. But if you’re short on time and want to get to know the place, you can take a look at this buggy tour of Costa Calma, a fun and unique activity suitable for all, including children.
2. Sotavento Beach, one of the best beaches in Jandía for water sports
Sotavento Beach stands as one of the most popular Jandia beaches, not only for its picturesque landscape but also because of its impressive length of 5.5 miles. This beach is very close to Pájara, another charming town in the southern reaches of Fuerteventura.
This beach unfolds in distinct segments, each offering its own unique atmosphere within its expanse of five smaller beaches: De la Barca, Risco del Paso, Mirador, Los Canarios, and Mal Nombre. So, it is worth taking a tour and learning all its nuances.
For example, there are spots where avid surfers and windsurfers gather. But there are also areas where shallow lagoons are formed that are perfect for a refreshing dip with your little ones.
However, you should keep in mind that there are no services anywhere along this beach. If you’re not traveling by car, you can get there via public transportation from Puerto del Rosario. I suggest making your way to the El Salmo viewpoint, where you can see the entire landscape and admire all its beauty.
3. Cofete Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Jandía, Fuerteventura
Cofete Beach is one of the finest beaches in Jandia, Fuerteventura. In fact, it not only holds a prominent place in the Canary Islands but it is also one of the best beaches in Spain. So, if you have the opportunity, don’t pass up the chance to visit this heavenly place.
Getting to this beach, however, is not an easy task, as it is located in an area with the least urban development on the island. Yet, it is one of the wildest beaches in the region, and seeing it with my own eyes gave me an unparalleled sense of freedom.
While we drove there by car, it’s advisable to opt for a 4×4 vehicle due to the rocky terrain and the exposed cliff stretches along the road, which can be dangerous. For those aiming to fully enjoy the experience without worries, I suggest this Jeep tour, which is one of the most popular excursions in Fuerteventura.
Keep in mind that if you’re with your family, this might not be the ideal choice, as amenities are limited. Apart from a small restaurant in the town of Cofete and the mysterious Villa Winter mansion, there is not much else. Plus, the beach’s breezy nature leads to robust waves crashing against the shore.
4. Esquinzo Beach, another beautiful beach in Jandía, Fuerteventura
Esquinzo Beach is a beach in Jandía that should be at the top of your list if you like beaches with a calm atmosphere. The backdrop of powdery sand, the expansive dunes, and the clear turquoise waters create a beautiful natural haven where you can spend the day in nature.
This beach is nearly a mile long, so you are sure to find plenty of space to soak up the sun and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. You can easily reach it by car or opt for a delightful walk from the neighboring Playa de Jandía when the tide is low.
Esquinzo Beach is popular among families seeking gentle, shallow waters for their little ones to play in. It’s also a favorite for those looking to spend a day by the sea with added options like umbrellas and sun loungers for rent.
5. Playa de los Ojos, a rustic, virgin beach in Jandía, Fuerteventura
Playa de los Ojos is a small beach in Jandía that will capture your heart if you’re drawn to places brimming with natural beauty. Situated between Punta de la Turbina and Punta del Corralito, this beach lies approximately 1.2 miles away from the renowned and picturesque Puertito de la Cruz.
This beach is characterized by its solitary and peaceful atmosphere, attracting those who are looking to relax in tranquility. Accessing this beach requires you to drive down an unpaved road, a journey some visitors prefer to avoid, seeking a more driver-friendly beach in the vicinity.
Plus, to get to the beach you must go down a 30-foot wooden staircase. So, if you’re traveling with small children, you will surely prefer another Jandía beach on this list.
A few feet from the beach, you will find another surprise, the landing runway constructed by Gustav Winter in 1940—a place with a lot of history that was abandoned a few years later.
6. Matorral Beach, one of the most famous beaches in Jandia
Playa del Matorral is one of the busiest beaches in Jandía, situated right next to Morro Jable. Its excellent location, coupled with its favorable conditions, creates the perfect environment for unwinding by the sea. Whether you’re in the mood for a leisurely stroll, a revitalizing swim, or even a bit of water sports, this beach has something to offer everyone.
Playa del Matorral is nearly 7.5 miles long, so it’s rarely crowded, even in the summer. In addition to sunbed and umbrella rentals, you’ll find a multitude of bars and restaurants along the shoreline, offering the ideal spot to enjoy an aperitif or lunch with an ocean view.
Right behind the beach, you will find one of the most representative flora and fauna reserves of the island: the Saladar de Jandía. That said, accessing this protected wetland is limited in order to safeguard its ecological integrity.
If you like to see wild animals as much as I do, you can sign up for a tour to see dolphins and whales in Fuerteventura, as they typically depart from the neighboring port of Puerto de Morro Jable. I did this excursion a few years ago and I still remember this wonderful experience. Long story short, this is a must-try adventure, especially if you’re traveling with children.
7. Playa de Butihondo, a beach in Jandía with crystal clear waters
Playa de Butihondo is one of the best beaches in Jandia, Fuerteventura. This semi-urban beach offers the perfect blend of a natural setting without getting too far from the city. With almost 2 miles of inviting sand, it’s divided into three distinct sections, one of which is designated for those who practice nudism and want some privacy.
For others, the amenities are plentiful: showers, restrooms, umbrellas, beach chair rentals, and restaurants, providing a comfortable day at the beach, whether you’re with friends or family. There’s also a parking lot at the entrance for those who decide to visit the island by car, and it is accessible via the bus lines that run along the coast.
This beach offers incredibly calm waters, making it an ideal spot for families with children. But it’s the striking turquoise and crystal-clear color of the water that really catches your eye. That’s why you’ll often find some folks looking for some little fish while snorkeling.
8. Playa Esmeralda, a quiet beach in Jandía, Fuerteventura
Playa Esmeralda is another Jandia beach where you can relax. It is located between the beaches of Costa Calma and Sotavento Beach which allows you to combine multiple visits in one day and delve deep into the south of the island to enjoy its beauty.
The contrast of turquoise waters against the backdrop of white sands creates the most beautiful scene you can imagine. The beach is also a hub for windsurfing, kitesurfing, and other water sports. Whether you’re experienced or want to try these activities, this beach welcomes all. You can also practice nudism at the end of the beach, showcasing the diverse range of beachgoers.
To reach Playa Esmeralda, you will need a car and know how to navigate dirt roads, as it’s located in a fairly remote area. However, the beach offers conveniences like a beach bar, hammocks, a lifeguard, and other services for those who prefer a touch of comfort.
9. Barlovento Beach, one of the best wild beaches of Jandía, Fuerteventura
Barlovento Beach is one of the beaches in Jandía with a truly untouched and wild environment. If you’re seeking beach bars, lounge chair rentals, and leisurely afternoons with a cold beer in hand, this might not be the best choice for you. Here, you’ll need to bring along everything you require for your beach day.
Located beyond Cofete Beach and the Islote de las Siete Viudas, many visitors overlook Barlovento since it is a relatively long journey. So, if you are looking for solitude and privacy, you will surely find yourself alone here on many occasions.
Just like the journey to Cofete Beach, reaching Barlovento requires a 4×4 vehicle and familiarity with cliffside exposed roads. This vast and solitary stretch of beach is surrounded by varying heights of mountains and turquoise waters. Remember that the winds can be robust, so be extra careful if you’re considering a swim in the sea.
10. Juan Gómez Beach, one of the loveliest natural beaches in Jandía
Juan Gómez Beach is among the best beaches in Jandía for nature lovers, and one of the quietest places in the region. Here, a gentle sea breeze, calm waves, and the crystalline clarity of the water greet you warmly.
To reach this beach, you’ll navigate a rough dirt road that lies along the same path that goes from Morro Jable to Cofete Beach. But instead of veering north toward Cofete, opt for the southern coastal detour. And remember that you will not find any signage along the way. As you descend to the beach, you’ll encounter a somewhat steep and sandy path. However, all the effort will be worth it as you discover this natural wonder.
This golden sand beach is surrounded by rocks and cliffs that temper the winds, although, as I mentioned before, they are usually not very strong. And if luck is on your side, on a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of the Jandía Lighthouse in the distance—an added spectacle to this natural wonder.
11. Playa de Jandía, a beach where you can see dolphins in Jandía
Located at the end of Matorral Beach near the town of Piedras Caídas, Jandía Beach is one of the best beaches on the Jandía peninsula. So, if you are looking for a quieter environment, this might be the perfect place.
With its semi-urban setting, Playa de Jandía offers all the essentials for a day out with the family, thanks to its proximity to the town center. The desert-like landscape, fine sand, and tranquil waters invite you to spend the day enjoying its peaceful atmosphere.
The cherry on top is a bird-watching station awaits you at the beach entrance. So, if you want to get to know the local fauna, make sure to visit this interesting place.
12. Playa de Mal Nombre, a cliffside beach in Jandía, Fuerteventura
Playa de Mal Nombre is one of the beaches in Jandía Fuerteventura nestled within the vast expanse of Sotavento Beach. Its allure lies in the combination of golden sands and dark rock cliffs in the surroundings. Moreover, the turquoise waters bathe the coast, creating a genuine postcard-worthy vista.
One of the key advantages of this beach is its accessibility, as you can park your car next to the beach. Moreover, Mal Nombre is located between Morro Jable and Costa Calma, which allows for a perfect day – starting with exploring these interesting towns, followed by relaxing by the beach.
If you are looking for a quiet environment away from bustling tourist hubs, this is a destination to consider. While not entirely secluded, the beach does offer some services in the area, including restaurants and restrooms, which makes it a perfect choice for those who value comfort.
13. Playa de las Coloradas, one of the best beaches in Jandía for families
Playa de las Coloradas is one of the most visited beaches in Morro Jable, nestled alongside the port. This Jandía beach is just over 650 feet long, and is accessible by both car and foot, making it a wonderful option for a family outing. The atmosphere here is calm and it is visited primarily by locals, offering a welcome escape from the more crowded tourist destinations.
The beach area is rather limited, so there’s not much room to stretch out when the tide is high. But you will find some natural caves where you can seek shelter from the sun during midday. And if you’re interested, you might want to check out the Fishermen’s Association, a restaurant that’s a town legend for its delicious fish dishes and is located a few streets away.
Nudism is permitted, so feel free to bare it all. In addition, the calm waves and inviting waters make it a great spot for swimming, but remember to exercise caution, as there are no lifeguards present at the beach.
14. Playa Salvaje, another beach in Jandía that you must visit
Playa Salvaje, as its name suggests, is a beach in Jandía with a wild and natural environment. The beach offers a large stretch of coastline with crystal-clear waters as well as convenient nearby parking which makes it an ideal destination for a comfortable outing with friends and family.
It’s true that you’ll need to navigate a dirt road to reach the beach, but it’s a short and straightforward route that even the little ones can handle.
If you decide to explore this beach, remember that it’s located between two of the best beaches in Jandía: Mal Nombre and Esquinzo. A great idea would be to go to several of them on the same day so you can discover multiple natural gems in a single visit.
15. Playa de la Pared, one of the beaches in Jandía with the best sunsets
Finally, we have the famous Playa de la Pared, a Jandía beach where you can truly connect with nature. Its wild environment will make you fall in love with Fuerteventura, and I’m sure you will want to return again. To get here, you must drive to the town of Pájara, and take a 4-mile road until you reach your destination.
Stretching about 820 feet long, this beach has rocky terrain, so it might not be the best fit for a family day out. Instead, it’s the kind of place to go if you’re seeking peace and relaxation. Plus, it has strong waves and winds, so unless you are a professional, it’s probably best to skip the swim.
That being said, the views here are beyond words – perfect for enjoying a romantic sunset and watching the sky change color. Also, if you’re a seasoned surfer, you’re in luck – there are some big waves to ride. However, if you’ve just started with this sport, I suggest you hold off on trying it here.
That rounds up our list of the best beaches in Jandia, Fuerteventura. Hopefully, this guide has given you a solid idea of where to head on your trip to one of the best Canary Islands.
