The beaches of Costa Calma are famous for their fine sands and gentle waves. There are a few areas where you can practice watersports, but for the most part, these beaches are ideal for a relaxing day by the sea.
During our four days here, we were able to rest, disconnect from the crowds, and spend time discovering the pristine natural landscape and scenery. Since Costa Calma’s beaches aren’t too far from town, you can enjoy some of the most popular attractions in Fuerteventura, then escape to the beautiful coast.
Also, you can find several excursions in Fuerteventura that explore the shores of Costa Calma and its surroundings. Whether you want to check out the more remote beaches or you prefer a more active vacation, you’ll find what you’re looking for here.

1. Costa Calma Beach, one of the best beaches in Costa Calma, Fuerteventura
First, Costa Calma Beach is a must-see, and it’s very close to the town center, so it’s easy to get to. The beach is 1.2 miles long and divided into different areas, so it’ll appeal to everyone.
The entire stretch of this beach in Costa Calma has fine white sand and clear turquoise waters. While it can be quite touristy, it’s also convenient, given its location and amenities. Here, you’ll find lifeguards, umbrella and chair rentals, and even different water activities.

The southern end of the beach tends to be more active, and it attracts many surfers since it has stronger winds. If you’re traveling as a family, I recommend the opposite end, which has gentler waves that are better suited for children. Playa Esmeralda is another gorgeous beach in Costa Calma and one of the best beaches in all of Fuerteventura. You’ll find it in the northern part of town, between Costa Calma Beach and Sotavento Beach.
This is one of the best places to go if you want to spend some quiet time in nature. Fewer people come here since it’s a bit harder to get to. You’ll have to drive along a dirt road, but it’s worth it to see one of the most pristine Costa Calma beaches.
2. Playa Esmeralda, a windless beach in Costa Calma
The waters here have an emerald-green tone, creating a dreamy environment, and the wind conditions are ideal for watersports like kitesurfing and windsurfing. You can rent surfing gear or hang out on a hammock and watch others practice their skills. Despite its more remote location, Playa Esmeralda has a few beach bars as well as lifeguards.
Overall, I consider this to be one of the best beaches in Jandía, and it offers the perfect balance of tranquility and comfort.
3. Sotavento Beach, a beautiful Costa Calma beach with dunes
Sotavento Beach is one of the best beaches in Costa Calma, and it’s one of my favorite beaches on the whole island. Its unique landscape is sure to take your breath away thanks to its preserved rustic and natural environment. Without a doubt, this is the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature.
The beach is 5.5 miles long and made up of several small coves, each with different characteristics. For example, Playa de la Barca is a popular spot for wind and kitesurfing, while Playa del Malnombre is more isolated and quieter. The northern part of the beach is a common area to go nude sunbathing.

No matter which part of Sotavento Beach you choose, you’ll enjoy crystal-clear waters and soft white sand. If you visit at low tide, you’ll be able to see the Laguna de Sotavento, a natural pool with warm water that forms between the sand dunes.
Moreover, if you have time, I suggest exploring this naturist Costa Calma beach from top to bottom. This way you can get the full experience and see why it’s one of the most charming places in Jandia.

Matas Blancas Beach is another Costa Calma beach that looks like paradise. It’s a little less than a mile long, but it’s one of the most beautiful spots along the coast, so you can’t miss it.

Unlike some of the other beaches of Costa Calma, Matas Blancas is removed from the hustle and bustle of the town and tourist centers. It’s just a 10-minute drive away, but it feels like a remote island where you can disconnect and enjoy a peaceful afternoon.
Matas Blancas doesn’t have any kind of services, so be sure to bring everything you’ll need with you. While there aren’t any showers or changing rooms, there are some surf schools where you can rent equipment or sign up for a class. Dan took this windsurfing course and had a blast! It was designed specifically for beginners, so after learning some basic techniques, he was able to practice on the waves.
5. Playa de La Jaqueta, a peaceful beach in Costa Calma, Fuerteventura
Another beach in Costa Calma, Fuerteventura that you should visit is Playa de La Jaqueta. This is one of Costa Calma’s best-kept secrets, with crystal-clear waters, soft sand, and scenic surroundings.

The beach is 5.5 miles from the town center, but if you have a car, it’s just a 10-minute drive away. There is a parking lot where you can keep the car, but there aren’t any restaurants or services here, so pack what you’ll need. That said, it is one of the few places where you can camp in Fuerteventura.
As for the beach itself, it’s one of the wilder beaches of Costa Calma, with a rustic landscape and some rocky areas. That said, you can still swim safely here if you avoid those craggy areas. While you’re here, you should also check out the Mirador del Viento at the end of the beach. From this lookout point, you’ll have panoramic views of the entire Costa Calma shoreline, so it’s quite a treat.
6. La Lajita Beach, a volcanic sand beach in Costa Calma
La Lajita Beach is a charming beach in Costa Calma where you can discover some local culture. It’s right in front of the town of La Lajita, a small fishing village that still preserves its traditional customs.
If you head into town, you’ll find several authentic restaurants where you can try typical Canarian dishes and fresh fish. It’s the perfect way to end a peaceful morning or afternoon by the sea.

As for the beach itself, it’s 0.6 miles long and covered in shiny stones that contrast beautifully with the black sand. Nearby, there are some small cliffs that add to the picturesque environment while blocking out the wind. This makes the waves here nice and calm, so this is a great Costa Calma beach for a relaxing swim.
La Lajita Beach is about a 15-minute drive from Costa Calma, so just follow the FV-2 road until you see the signs.

Playa Laja del Corral is one of the best beaches in Costa Calma for families, so I recommend it if you’re traveling with kids. This beautiful bay has shallow, calm waters, so it’s perfect for a family beach day. In addition, the area doesn’t get too many people, so it has a serene atmosphere.

The beach has large cliffs at each end, as well as black volcanic sand, creating a unique and spectacular sight. This is also one of the best windless beaches in Costa Calma, so the most popular activities here are sunbathing and swimming. You can even go kayaking here since the waters are so calm.
Although there aren’t any restaurants or services at this Costa Calma Beach, the town of Tarajalejo is less than 2 miles away. Even if you don’t have a car, you can walk from the beach to Tarajalejo, which is what we did during our trip. It was a pleasant walk, and afterward, we checked out the shops and cafes in town.

Playa Agustín Millares is a smaller beach in Costa Calma where you can be sheltered from the wind and strong waves. It’s at the northern end of Costa Calma Beach, and it’s a lovely place to spend the day by the sea as a couple or a family.

The best parts of this beach are the golden sands and the privileged views of the neighboring beach. Also, this place is convenient if you’re looking for a more urban environment since there is a free parking lot as well as several restaurants and Costa Calma beach bars.
Moreover, a scenic promenade connects Playa Agustín Millares to Matas Blancas Beach, so you can take a nice nature walk. Along the way, you’ll pass the Mirador Atlántico, a well-known lookout point with panoramic views.

Playa Puerto Rico is another black sand beach in Costa Calma, Fuerteventura that you should see. It’s 5 miles from Costa Calma and next to La Lajita Beach, so you can easily visit both in one day.

Something to keep in mind if you visit this beach is that some parts are covered in rocks, so you must be careful. Most of the rocky areas are along the shore, so you shouldn’t have any trouble if you go swimming in the sea.
Also, towards the southern end of the beach, you’ll find the Punta Padrón viewpoint. It offers dreamy 360° views, especially at sunset, so I recommend coming here just before dusk. You’ll be able to admire the entire coastline and ocean at golden hour, making this one of the best Costa Calma beaches for couples.

Finally, don’t forget about Playa Esmeralda Norte, a convenient beach in Costa Calma that you can enjoy with the entire family. This smaller beach is located between Costa Calma Beach and Playa Esmeralda.

Given its small size, I recommend coming here at low tide, so you have enough space to lay out a towel and stroll on the sand. Another benefit of visiting at low tide is that you can see the shallow lagoons that form along the shore. These pools are perfect for the kids to splash around in, so you can let the little ones swim without any worries.
In addition, this Costa Calma beach has showers, restrooms, umbrella rentals, and other services. Plus, it’s just 1.2 miles from town, so you can get here by car or on foot.
