Booking one of the best cabins for rent in the Grand Canyon is an excellent way to immerse yourself in the beauty of one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders. Many of these cabins have a rich history spanning decades, reflecting the authentic Old West-style atmosphere of the Grand Canyon.
After several visits to the national park, I’ve curated a list of the top Grand Canyon cabins for those seeking a more authentic stay, reminiscent of the early explorers of this awe-inspiring site. It’s important to note that these rustic accommodations are limited and in high demand, so booking well in advance is essential.
Nevertheless, their charming settings provide the perfect retreat after a day of exploring the Grand Canyon’s most thrilling attractions, making the planning well worthwhile.
As we delve into the best cabins in the Grand Canyon, I’ll share essential information about each accommodation. For further guidance, feel free to consult our comprehensive guide on tips for visiting the Grand Canyon.
1. Bright Angel Lodge, one of the best cabins at the Grand Canyon
The Bright Angel Lodge, in Grand Canyon Village, is considered one of the top hotels in the Grand Canyon, offering standard hotel rooms as well as some of the best cabins by the Grand Canyon, including two historical cabins which I’ll introduce in the following sections. It’s important to note that these cabins are situated separately from the main lodge, in multi-unit buildings, and offer distinct amenities and designs.
The Bright Angel cabins accommodate up to 3 guests. Each unit features a queen bed and either a full private bath or a private bath with just a shower. Some cabins even offer partial canyon views and come equipped with a lovely fireplace. Additionally, amenities such as a TV, coffee maker, and iron with ironing board are provided for your convenience.
Keep in mind that the cabins do not have air conditioning, but they do feature ceiling fans to help with ventilation. While these cabins do not include kitchens, a small refrigerator is available in case you need to store some groceries or beverages. Moreover, there are three restaurants within the complex: The Arizona Room, the Bright Angel Restaurant, and the Bright Angel Fountain, ensuring you won’t go hungry.
There are plenty of attractions near this charming lodge, offering an opportunity to enjoy some of the best things to do in the Grand Canyon South Rim. Being one of the most luxurious hotels in the Grand Canyon, you might notice a price difference compared to other hotels. However, its exceptional service, comfortable cabins, and excellent location near free shuttle services make Bright Angel Lodge my first choice among the lodges in Grand Canyon Village. Plus, it’s located near the Bright Angel Trail, so you’re in for an enjoyable hike!
2. Phantom Ranch, one of the most popular cabins at the bottom of the Grand Canyon
If you’re considering hiking the Rim-to-Rim Trail, book a stay at Phantom Ranch, one of the most historic cabins at the Grand Canyon, and the only lodging below the canyon rim by the Colorado River. Accessible only by mule, on foot, or through rafting the Grand Canyon, it’s a unique retreat, with spots allocated through this 15-month advance lottery due to high demand.
Accommodation options at the ranch include standard cabins, which accommodate 2 to 4 guests, and dormitories specifically for hikers. The cabins are very primitive but are the most unique cabins for rent in the Grand Canyon. They are pretty basic but are heated during the winter and cooled in the summer. All cabins are equipped with either bunk beds or King beds, cold-water sinks, and private bathrooms without showers. But don’t worry; there is a spotlessly clean and well-maintained Shower House located near the cabins.
Additionally, there are two large cabins with 5 sets of bunk beds accommodating up to 10 people, featuring amenities similar to the smaller cabins. As for dining options, the Phantom Ranch Canteen, open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., offers exclusive dining for guests with reservations, including beverages and snacks.
What I loved about this place was its absolute serenity and close-to-nature atmosphere. Even if getting in and out was exhausting, seeing the breathtaking landscapes of the Grand Canyon was undeniably one of the most memorable experiences of my life. For a successful trip, book well in advance and train accordingly, as reaching the ranch is at least an 8-mile journey from the South Rim and 14 miles from the North Rim, with a significant elevation gain on the return trip of at least 4,460 ft.
3. Buckey’s Cabin, one of the oldest cabins in the Grand Canyon
The Buckey O’Neill Cabin is a gem within Bright Angel Lodge, and one of the most storied lodges in Grand Canyon National Park. The cabin was built in the 1890s by William “Buckey” O’Neill, a captain in Theodore Roosevelt’s Rough Riders and a pivotal figure who played a crucial role in establishing the Grand Canyon Railway.
The cabin comprises a living room with a charming fireplace and a bedroom equipped with a king-size bed, comfortably accommodating 2 people. Additionally, you can request a rollaway bed (for an additional fee) or a Pack n Play (for free) to accommodate up to 3 guests. The cabin also features a small bathroom equipped with a tub and shower, along with accessibility features to ensure a comfortable stay for all visitors, making it one of the best cabins in the Grand Canyon South Rim.
Securing a reservation for this unique cabin was quite challenging due to its popularity, so we had to play a little bit with our travel dates to be able to stay there. However, our persistence paid off, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Despite the absence of a kitchen or air conditioning, we felt completely at ease in our surroundings. The cabin boasts amenities such as a mini fridge, a wet bar, a comfy couch, and a large-screen TV. Plus, there are numerous excellent dining options just a short walk away, within the Angel Bright Lodge complex.
This cozy cabin in the Grand Canyon South Rim holds a special place on the National Register of Historic Places and is registered as part of the Grand Canyon Village National Historic Landmark District. So, while the price may seem steep, the rich history woven into its walls, combined with the comforting environment, makes it an exceptional accommodation choice for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the true spirit of the Grand Canyon.
To secure your spot here, you must contact the property directly.
4. Red Horse Cabin, a cabin rental at the Grand Canyon with a rich history
The Red Horse Cabin, another gem within the Bright Angel Lodge, is celebrated as one of the best lodges in the Grand Canyon, with a rich history dating back to 1890. It is, in fact, the oldest structure on the South Rim. Its exceptional location near some of the best hiking routes in the Grand Canyon South Rim makes it an outstanding option for staying inside Grand Canyon Village.
The cabin consists of a sitting area and a bedroom featuring a king-sized bed and a rollaway bed, perfect for accommodating 2 to 3 guests. Additionally, it includes two bathrooms with clawfoot tubs, two closets, a mini refrigerator, and a coffee maker.
Just bear in mind that it doesn’t have air conditioner or a kitchen. However, there are plenty of restaurants nearby. Plus, it has a table with 4 chairs, so you can order takeout and enjoy a dinner in the comfort of your cabin in front of the lovely fireplace.
Similar to the booking process for Buckey’s Cabin, reservations for the Red Horse Cabin can only be done by phone. So, make sure you call in advance to reserve one of the most beautiful cabins in Grand Canyon National Park.
Of course, like many cabins that make up Bright Angel Lodge, the Red Horse Cabin comes with a somewhat higher price tag. However, if you are visiting the Grand Canyon South Rim and looking for the perfect combination of historical charm and modern comfort, this is the ideal place for you.
5. Grand Canyon Tiny Homes, one of the most affordable cabins by the Grand Canyon
If you are looking for budget-friendly cabin rentals in the Grand Canyon for a family trip, I recommend the Tiny Homes at Sage Creek Mobile Park, located in Valle, just 24 miles (30 minutes) from Grand Canyon Village. With 30 units available, you’re sure to find the perfect accommodation for your needs.
Among my favorite cabins are the 076 Tiny Home and the 079 Tiny Home, both boasting three bedrooms and a living room, comfortably accommodating up to 8 guests. For couples seeking a cozy retreat, the multi-unit cabins offer several compact studios with private bathrooms, like the 075A unit.
Each unit features a bathroom with a walk-in shower, a beautiful front porch, and some even include amenities like a large loft, dining tables, and 4K smart TVs. Some cabins even come with a full kitchen, equipped with essentials like a small fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. And if you’re craving a hearty meal, you can always head to the nearby Grand Canyon Inn, Restaurant & Lounge for a delicious dining experience.
These family-friendly cabins are impeccably clean, well-equipped, and situated in a quiet and safe area. Despite their small size and not being within the national park, they’re definitely among the most popular cabins near the Grand Canyon South Rim.
6. Dumplin Patch Bed & Breakfast, a traditional cabin for rent in the Grand Canyon
Situated just a 30-minute drive from the South Rim entrance of the Grand Canyon, Dumplin Patch Bed & Breakfast stands out as the only traditional B&B in the area. Widely acclaimed among the finest cabins near the Grand Canyon, this delightful establishment caters to a diverse range of guests with four types of rooms, including a two-bedroom suite, a queen room, a family suite, and a lovely cabin known as The Shack.
The rustic cabin is equipped with air conditioning and charming decor. It features its own private bathroom with a tub and shower, a queen-sized bed, a TV, a small dining table, and a kitchenette with basics like a coffee pot, a small refrigerator, and a microwave. There’s even a nice front porch and electric grill where you can cook up a meal.
As one of the best Grand Canyon National Park cabins, the Dumplin Patch B&B offers impressive outdoor features, including an outdoor fireplace, a picnic area, a terrace, and a lovely garden. Needless to say, breakfast is included and offers a variety of options including eggs, fruit, French toast, pancakes, and more, making it the perfect start to a day of canyon exploration. Breakfast is served in the main building, a short walking distance from your cabin. If you’re planning to leave early to make the most of your day, you can also ask for a breakfast bag.
7. Inn History Grand Canyon Themed Cabin, one of the best lodges near the Grand Canyon
Celebrated as one of the best lodges near the Grand Canyon, the Inn History Grand Canyon Themed Cabin is located in Williams. It is an hour from the Grand Canyon South Rim Entrance, so I would consider this option if there are no vacancies within the park anymore. The design was inspired by the iconic Phantom Ranch cabins at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, adorned with modern furnishings.
Inn History Grand Canyon Themed Cabin offers a variety of options to suit different group sizes. You can choose from one-bedroom cabins, accommodating up to 4 guests, and two-bedroom cabins, accommodating up to 6 guests. The one-bedroom cabins feature a king bed and a pull-out sleeper sofa, while the two-bedroom cabins come with the same amenities along with two additional twin beds.
Moreover, there’s a wheelchair-accessible cabin that can accommodate up to 4 guests, complete with private parking and a sidewalk, making it one of the most comfortable cabins near the Grand Canyon National Park.
All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, heating, and a ceiling fan. Each lodging boasts a private bathroom and a well-appointed kitchenette with essentials such as a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and kitchenware. Additional amenities include barbecue facilities, a picnic area, a shared lounge, an outdoor fireplace, free private parking, and an electric vehicle charging station, making it a sought-after choice among luxurious cabins near the Grand Canyon.
Beyond their well-maintained facilities, spotless rooms, and excellent service, what I found particularly interesting about this place were the QR codes strategically placed around the cabin that provided guests with interesting information about the national park. So, it’s definitely a spot worth considering if you’re after comfort and a truly enriching experience during your visit.
8. Cabins at Grand Canyon West, one of the best cabin rentals in the Grand Canyon for couples
Cabins at Grand Canyon West are among the best hotels in the Grand Canyon West Rim, offering four types of rooms, ranging from the affordable Single Room to the more luxurious Queen Room with disability access.
Most cabins can comfortably accommodate up to six guests, with even a large suite available for 8 people. They all feature a patio, a private bathroom, and a terrace as well as modern amenities such as AC, a TV, a coffee maker, an oven, a mini-fridge, and a microwave.
These Grand Canyon West Rim cabins are also among the top pet-friendly hotels in the Grand Canyon, allowing you to enjoy the journey with your furry companions. While there’s no private kitchen in the cabins, the nearby Hualapai Ranch Dining Hall is a great spot to enjoy delicious meals and complete your experience of visiting Grand Canyon West.
Strategically situated for adventure-seekers, the Cabins at Grand Canyon West are ideal for those eager to explore the Grand Canyon Skywalk or embark on an exhilarating Grand Canyon West Rim helicopter tour. Plus, each reservation includes two complimentary general admission tickets to Grand Canyon West, just 5 minutes away. Just remember that if you wish to visit the Skywalk, there is an additional fee; however, you can explore Eagle and Guano Points for free.
9. Hull Cabin, a charming Grand Canyon cabin in a secluded environment
Hull Cabin is one of the historic Grand Canyon camping cabins located on a dirt road that connects with Desert View Drive, between Grandview Point and Moran Point, in the South Rim. With its origins as a one-room homestead constructed by the Hull family in the late 1880s, it has earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.
Perfect for accommodating up to six guests, Hull Cabin offers no electricity or plumbing but has a cozy bedroom furnished with two twin-sized bunk beds, a welcoming living room featuring a queen-sized futon, and a fully equipped kitchen with a stove, refrigerator with freezer, dishes, utensils, pots, pans and some cleaning supplies.
Additionally, there’s a separate shower house near the cabin equipped with a vault toilet and two shower stalls, each featuring solar shower attachments – just remember to bring along your own solar shower bladder bags.
The cabin also offers outdoor amenities like a BBQ area, a picnic table for alfresco dining, a quaint porch, and a cozy fire pit for chilly nights beneath the stars. While the cabin is rustic, it provides the most authentic experience, reminiscent of the first explorers of the Grand Canyon. Being the most secluded option in this guide, your packing list for the Grand Canyon should include bedding, towels, garbage bags, dishwashing liquid, a flashlight, and an axe for chopping wood and making fires. Also, remember to bring enough water and food for your stay, as there are no nearby restaurants.
Apart from touring Desert View Drive and other places within the South Rim, this Grand Canyon cottage provides access to various recreational activities in the Tusayan Ranger District of Kaibab National Forest, allowing you to observe the abundant wildlife of the Grand Canyon. For example, the Grandview Lookout Tower is just a short 2-mile drive away and offers 360° views.
10. Grand Canyon Western Ranch, the most luxurious cabins in the Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon Western Ranch is one of the best lodges near the Grand Canyon, offering a unique Old West-style experience at a resort once owned by a notorious 19th-century gunfighter. It’s about 20 minutes from the West Rim parking lot.
Cabins at this resort are adorned with cowboy-themed decor featuring wagon wheels and saddles. Accommodating 2 to 5 guests, each cabin is a cozy retreat boasting a fireplace or wood-burning stove, AC and heater, as well as an en-suite bathroom complete with showers or antique claw-foot tubs. Some of the cabins have a loft area, while others have a cozy front porch.
Additional amenities include a lounge, an on-site restaurant known as Historic Ranch House, and the famous beer saloon, Diamond Bar featuring Live Cowboy Entertainment. Plus, here, you’ll find the ultimate relaxation formula! Just grab a cup of coffee, sit back on the rocking chair on the porch, and enjoy the spectacular view of Iron Mountain.
And that concludes our recommendations for the best cabin rentals in the Grand Canyon. I’ve also included a map highlighting the location of each cabin to help you plan your itinerary more efficiently.
