In the largest and wildest Rocky Mountain National Park, there are plenty of camping and lodging options. However, you must book in advance if you want to stay within Jasper National Park.

We visited Jasper during our Canadian Rockies 15-day road trip and we were fascinated, especially by the amount of wildlife we were able to see: bears, moose, and even a wolf. Also, there are many things to do in Jasper. Some of the most beautiful lakes in Canada, hot springs, and incredible glaciers are here, so I recommend that you spend at least 3 days in this national park.

Most of the nights, we chose to camp in Jasper, although we also spent some nights in Jasper National Park lodgings.

Jasper is the largest town within Jasper National Park. All the restaurants and shops are here, and it’s also surrounded by amazing natural places. It’s the perfect area to visit wonders like the Maligne River Canyon and the beautiful Maligne Lake. You will also be close to the Kettle Lakes (Edith Lake, Annette Lake, and Beauvert Lake), which are interconnected lakes with beautiful views. Also, from here, you can visit Pyramid Lake and Patricia Lake, where canoeing is very popular.

We also really liked the board at reception with a Rocky Mountain map where each visitor can put colored pins to indicate which animal he or she saw, how many days ago it was, and at what exact point on the map it was seen. A good way to know where to go to see the fauna of the Canadian Rockies. Also, breakfast was delicious, making it an accommodation in Jasper that I recommend.

Inside the hotel is the Stone Peak restaurant, where they serve delicious breakfasts and dinners. In addition, in the bar, there is a large fireplace to sit around and chat.

All rooms have a gas fireplace and kitchen. In addition, the accommodation has a swimming pool and a mini-golf course, making it a good option to stay in Jasper with kids.

Valemount and west entrance. Cheap accommodation in Jasper

If you come to Jasper from the west, Valemount is the best option for where to stay. In addition, in this area, you can find cheap hotels of good quality. Keep in mind that Valemount is not in Alberta, the territory where Jasper National Park is located; it’s in British Columbia.

To get from Valemount to the town of Jasper will only take you an hour and a half, so this accommodation option is only recommended if you haven’t booked in advance and can’t find a good accommodation in Jasper National Park.

There are more than 10 campgrounds in Jasper National Park, so if you want to camp in Jasper, this is a great option.

Many campsites are only open in summer, although there are some that also have sites available in winter. During peak tourist season, you will have to make a reservation at most sites, although there are some that are first-come, first-served. Most campsites in Jasper have the same services. Each plot is equipped with a table with fixed benches, a fire pit, and enough room to park your car and pitch your tent. You’ll also have a food locker to prevent the smell of your food from attracting bears. It’s also possible that you’ll find some bear traps at the campground since there are many bears in Jasper. If you want to light a fire, you will have to pay for a special permit, and the campsite will give you firewood.
