Where Brits Can Travel

- Latest Travel Restrictions for UK Citizens -

Last update: 6/5/2021

Brits can travel to 103 countries right now. However, travel restrictions for UK citizens depend on the destination.

As of today, British tourists can travel to 18 countries without COVID-19 restrictions. While UK visitors are only required to present pre-trip COVID test results to travel to 54 countries, Brits are subject to mandatory quarantine for 31 other international destinations.

Although, in this guide, you will learn where UK citizens can travel now, bear in mind that the United Kingdom National Health Service advises against traveling unless it is strictly necessary.

Additionally, if you do travel and you return to anywhere in the UK from a country that is not on the green list, you will have to quarantine for 10 days from your arrival in the UK. You can find a list of England’s green list countries here, a list of Wales’ green list countries here, a list of Scotland’s green list countries here, and a list of Northern Ireland’s corridors here

In addition to the British travel restrictions that you will find in this guide, which we update daily, I recommend checking the Foreign Travel Advice website if you want to know the safest countries for British travellers.

On the following map of countries open to UK citizens, you will find all the places Brits can travel to right now.

Where can Brits travel

We’ve sorted the countries UK residents can travel to by entry requirements.

If you’re wondering where to get a quick PCR test for travel in the United Kingdom, we have written a specific guide on that.

I’d like to point out that it’s essential to have travel insurance that covers COVID-19, whether or not it’s an entry requirement for your destination (although many countries already include it in their entry requirements).

Also, these new COVID-19 entry restrictions do not exempt travellers from needing a valid tourist visa if it was already required before the pandemic. You can check whether you need a visa to travel below.

Additionally, keep in mind that some countries may go into lockdown after opening their borders to tourism. We have written specific guides for all the places Brits can travel to, where you can find out the current situation in the country, if there is a lockdown or curfew mandates in place, and if hotels, restaurants, and attractions are open to tourism.

COVID-19 green list

The UK’s green list countries are countries that you can visit without having to self-isolate upon returning to the UK.

If you have visited or had a layover in a country that is not part of the green list, once you arrive in the UK, you must quarantine for 10 days.

Below is a list of England’s green list countries. WalesScotland, and Northern Ireland have their own lists of green list countries, so be sure to check the list that applies to you.

  • Australia
  • Brunei
  • Falkland Islands
  • Faroe Islands
  • Gibraltar
  • Iceland
  • Israel and Jerusalem
  • New Zealand
  • Portugal (including Madeira and the Azores)
  • Singapore
  • South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands
  • St Helena, Ascension, and Tristan da Cunha

We update this list frequently, but if you want to see the latest updates, we recommend checking this website.

Also, bear in mind that not all of the countries on the green list allow visits for the purpose of tourism. We only provide information about countries that British travellers can visit as tourists.

In England only, you can potentially end your quarantine early if you pay for and take a private COVID-19 test after 5 days of isolation. You can find more information about that here.

In Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, you must complete your 10 days of self-isolation if you return from a country that is not on the green list.
