The ferries in Fuerteventura offer a practical and comfortable way to move between some Canary Islands. It’s also a good solution if you want to take a car on board, have lots of luggage, or have a pet you want to bring along.
However, in some cases, taking a boat from Fuerteventura can take the better part of a day. In that case, I recommend another mode of transportation, such as taking a flight or a guided tour.
We’ve taken the ferry in Fuerteventura several times, particularly whenever we’ve had a rental car and wanted to take it to a different island. If you’d like to do this, make sure that during your booking, you specify that you’ll return the vehicle to a different drop-off point. Also, be aware that some rental companies don’t allow you to take the car off the island. It’s a good idea to look through our guide on Fuerteventura rental cars to get a better idea of how to go about this.
Of course, you can also hop on and off the Fuerteventura ferry as a foot passenger. In this article, I’ll share everything you need to know about these boats, including different routes and schedules, so you can enjoy the top attractions in Fuerteventura and other Canary Islands.
Taking the Fuerteventura ferry between Canary Islands
In addition to some of the best Canary Islands, you can reach the peninsula on a Fuerteventura ferry. That said, the latter takes quite a few hours, so I only recommend it for very specific cases. Below, I’ll tell you more about all the routes you can take by ferry from Fuerteventura:
- Ferry from Fuerteventura to Isla de Lobos
- Ferry from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote
- Ferry from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria
- Ferry from Fuerteventura to Tenerife
- Ferry from Fuerteventura to La Palma
- Ferry from Fuerteventura to Cádiz
If the route you’re interested in is too long for you, consider looking at flights in Fuerteventura. This is a faster way to get around, although you should factor in travel time to and from the airport and the security checks at the airport.
DirectFerries, the best way to find ferries in Fuerteventura
When we want to find ferries from Fuerteventura to Tenerife, Lanzarote, or another Canary island, we use DirectFerries. This online platform is the easiest way to look at schedules, prices, and routes for the main shipping companies connecting Fuerteventura with other islands and the peninsula.
The website is super easy to use; type in the port of your departure and arrival, the days you want to travel, the number of passengers, and whether or not you’re bringing a vehicle. The Fuerteventura ferry ports are in Corralejo and Puerto del Rosario in the north and Morro Jable in the south.
If you plan on taking your rental car from Fuerteventura to any other island, check that your contract doesn’t prohibit you from doing so. Also, ask if you can return the vehicle to a different drop-off point than where you picked it up.
Regardless of whether you have a vehicle, I suggest you book your ferry ticket in advance. This is especially important during peak travel season when boat operators are busier than usual.

FERRY IN FUERTEVENTURA - PRICES & ROUTES |
You’ll see that I added both options from Puerto del Rosario, which go to either Las Palmas or Santa Cruz de Tenerife. You can also board the ferry in Fuerteventura at the port in Morro Jable and disembark in Las Palmas or Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The routes from Puerto del Rosario are cheaper but take much longer, so I personally prefer to leave from Morro Jable.
In any case, remember to buy your tickets in advance through DirectFerries to ensure you catch the cheapest ferry from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote or Isla de Lobos, two of the busiest routes.
Ferry from Fuerteventura to Isla de Lobos
The only way to get to Lobos Island, Fuerteventura, is by boat. Fortunately, the ferry from Fuerteventura to Isla de Lobos takes just 15 minutes. It departs from the Port of Corralejo and arrives at Puertito de Lobos.
Also, you must request a permit through this website to disembark on the island and legally access the islet. Note: the permit is not included in the Lobos Island ferry ticket.
Since the islet was declared a Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve, visitor access is limited to 400 people per day, divided into morning and afternoon access. So, it’s important to request the access permit and book the ferry from Fuerteventura to Lobos Island in advance.
You can find all the information you need in our guide on how to get to Isla de Lobos.
Price of ferry from Fuerteventura to Isla de Lobos
The ferry from Fuerteventura to Isla de Lobos costs around €8 per person for a one-way trip (€16 round-trip). You must purchase a round-trip ticket since access to the islet is limited. Overnight stays are not permitted; in fact, you can only spend 4 hours there.
Moreover, you can’t bring a rental car to Lobos Island since motor vehicles are strictly prohibited. We brought some bike rentals on board the ferry to get around the islet more easily. We rented our bikes from Easy Riders Bike Center in Corralejo.
Ferry times from Fuerteventura to Isla de Lobos
There are several ferries from Fuerteventura to Lobos Island every day. However, since visits to the islet are limited to 4 hours, I recommend taking the first ferry of the morning (or afternoon) to make the most of your time.
If you arrive at the island later than the time indicated on your access permit, you’ll have less time to explore. So, book in advance so you can get your full 4 hours!
Ferry from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote
There are plenty of ferries from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote since the two islands are very close to each other. The trip takes just 25 minutes, with boats departing from Corralejo and arriving in Playa Blanca.
Thanks to the short distance and travel time, many travelers choose to book this day trip. This is a great option if you’re short on time, although I think it’s best to spend at least 2 or 3 days on the island so you can explore the main attractions in Lanzarote. If you bring a rental car on board, you can make the most of your time.
Price of ferry from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote
The price of the ferry from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote is around €18 per person for a one-way trip (€35 round-trip). If you’re bringing a car on the ferry, expect to pay around €45 one-way (€72 round-trip). Keep in mind that your return date doesn’t have to be on the same day.
Also, remember that the cost of the ferry from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote (or any other island) varies based on factors like the time of year, demand, and the type of vehicle you’re bringing along.
Ferry times from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote
There are several daily ferries from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote. They depart every 30-45 minutes, with the earliest leaving at 6:15 a.m. and the latest departing at 8:30 p.m.
The frequency of boats may vary depending on the season, but you shouldn’t have trouble finding a time that works for you. After all, this is one of the most popular routes.
Ferry from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria
You have two options if you want to take a ferry from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria. You can board the boat in Puerto del Rosario or Morro Jable. Personally, I recommend departing from Morro Jable since the journey only takes about 2 hours, as opposed to the 7 hours it takes from Puerto del Rosario.
In any case, it’s best to plan on spending at least a couple of days on the island, as there are lots of cool places to see in Gran Canaria.
Price of ferry from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria
The price of the ferry from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria varies depending on the departure port (Puerto del Rosario or Morro Jable).
From Puerto del Rosario, tickets start at around €42 per person for a one-way trip (€84 round-trip). If you’re taking a car on board, it costs about €54 one-way (€107 round-trip).
Tickets from Morro Jable are a little more expensive, but the trip is much faster. A one-way ticket costs around €52 per person (€103 round-trip), and with a car, it costs about €79 one-way (€105 round-trip).
Of course, these are just estimates since ticket prices vary throughout the year and depend on what kind of vehicle you bring along.
Ferry times from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria
There are daily ferries from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria, although more boats leave from Morro Jable.
During peak travel season, boats leave Morro Jable between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Puerto del Rosario between 11:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. During the low season, there may only be one or two boats per day, especially from Puerto del Rosario.
I advise checking the timetables and prices on the DirectFerries website to get the most up-to-date information.
Ferry from Fuerteventura to Tenerife
There are also ferries from Fuerteventura to Tenerife, so you can take the boat over and enjoy all the wonderful attractions in Tenerife.
Boats depart Fuerteventura from Puerto del Rosario and Morro Jable. I suggest the latter port since the journey is much shorter (4-5 hours as opposed to about 17 hours). No matter which port you depart from, the ferry will disembark in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a great town to start your adventure in Tenerife.
The options are the same if you want to make the reverse journey and take a ferry from Tenerife. However, the duration of the trip varies greatly depending on which port you leave from, Puerto del Rosario or Morro Jable.
Price of ferry from Fuerteventura to Tenerife
The Fuerteventura to Tenerife ferry price depends on whether you depart from Puerto del Rosario or Morro Jable.
The former costs around €99 per person for a one-way trip (€197 round-trip). With a rental car, expect to pay around €121 one-way (€242 round-trip).
Tickets from Morro Jable are a bit more expensive, but it’s worth it because the trip is much shorter. A one-way ticket costs around €122 per person (€244 round-trip). If you’re bringing a rental car on board, it costs about €152 one-way (€304 round-trip).
Personally, unless you want to bring a car or there are particular circumstances, I think it’s better to fly to Tenerife than take a boat. You can find cheap flights to Tenerife that will probably be cheaper than the ferry ticket from Morro Jable. The flight is also much faster than the boat trip from Puerto del Rosario.
Ferry times from Fuerteventura to Tenerife
There are only two ferries to Tenerife from Fuerteventura. One departs from Puerto del Rosario in the morning, while the other departs from Morro Jable in the afternoon. Depending on the time of year you travel, there may be more options, or even fewer.
While this route isn’t particularly busy, I strongly recommend booking your ticket in advance if you decide to take a boat between these two islands.
Ferry from Fuerteventura to La Palma
If you want to discover all the points of interest in La Palma, you can take a ferry from Fuerteventura. However, be aware that the boat trip is long, about 25-26 hours. I don’t recommend this option unless you’re taking a car along or there are very specific circumstances that prevent you from flying.
The ferry from Fuerteventura to La Palma departs from Puerto del Rosario and disembarks in Santa Cruz de La Palma.
Price of ferry from Fuerteventura to La Palma
Tickets for the ferry from Fuerteventura to La Palma start at around €44 per person for a one-way trip (€88 round-trip). If you want to bring a car onto the ferry, it costs around €96 one-way (€192 round-trip).
If you’re on a tight budget and can’t find cheap flights, taking the ferry between the two islands is a decent option, even if you’ll spend the whole day on the water. Of course, I don’t recommend it for shorter trips.
Ferry times from Fuerteventura to La Palma
If you decide to take the ferry from Fuerteventura to La Palma, I suggest booking your ticket in advance since the ferry only runs once a week. Naviera Armas operates the route, which connects Puerto del Rosario with Santa Cruz de La Palma.
Although the schedules may vary, the ferry usually departs Fuerteventura at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Ferry from Fuerteventura to Cádiz
While it’s a long journey and tickets are expensive, there is a ferry from Fuerteventura to Spain, specifically to Cádiz. The trip takes 30-36 hours, departing from Puerto del Rosario and disembarking in the city of Cádiz on the Spanish peninsula.
Given the long travel time and the price, I only recommend taking this ferry in very specific cases. For example, if you’re traveling with a lot of luggage, a rental car, or a pet, it may be easier to opt for the ferry as opposed to a plane.
Price of ferry from Fuerteventura to Cádiz
Traveling between Cádiz and Fuerteventura by boat is pretty expensive, with a one-way ticket priced at around €176per person (€351 round-trip). With a car, the price jumps to €394 one-way (€788 round-trip).
Unless your circumstances are similar to the ones I described earlier, I don’t think it’s worth spending so much money on a ferry. Instead, I recommend checking sites like Kiwi.com to find cheap flights to and from the peninsula.
Ferry times from Fuerteventura to Cádiz
The ferry from Fuerteventura to Cádiz departs from Puerto del Rosario once a week, specifically on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. The return voyage departs Cádiz on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m.
This isn’t a common route, but the ferry schedules could vary throughout the year, so be sure to check the latest timetables and prices on DirectFerries.

If you decide to take a ferry from Fuerteventura, I suggest booking your ticket in advance, especially if you’re traveling during peak season or have your eye on a popular route. Moreover, if you’re worried about whether or not you’ll be able to travel, consider taking out trip cancellation insurance. It’s well-priced and will allow you to recover the cost of the ferry ticket in case you cannot travel.
Finally, we always use DirectFerries to browse Fuerteventura ferry routes and purchase tickets. The platform is streamlined and efficient, allowing us to find the best offers and up-to-date information.
Alternatives to the Fuerteventura ferry – Other ways to get around
On the other hand, if you decide that traveling by Fuerteventura ferry isn’t for you, that’s okay. There are other ways to travel between the Canary Islands and the peninsula, such as flying or taking an organized tour.
You can also rent a boat in Fuerteventura, which will allow you to explore the coast freely and go to other islands. Of course, you must make sure you rent the right boat that corresponds to your boating license, or you can rent a boat with a skipper. I recommend reading our complete guide for more information.
Flying, a cheap way to get from Fuerteventura to other Canary Islands
Taking a plane is a great alternative to the Fuerteventura ferry, and it’ll allow you to reach any Canary Island or Spain cheaply and comfortably. The only exception is Isla de Lobos, as you can only reach this islet by boat.
Flights from Fuerteventura to the peninsula typically last 2-4 hours depending on the arrival/departure airport. As for flights connecting Fuerteventura to other Canary Islands, the travel time is at most 50 minutes. This makes it an excellent alternative to the ferries from Fuerteventura, which can take over 10 hours. That said, you must take into account travel time to and from the airport as well as check-in time and security checks.
Another advantage of flying is that you can find tickets starting at around €30, depending on the time of year. These flights are usually from low-cost airline companies, so there are limitations on how much luggage you can carry, and you may not be able to choose your seat.
Even so, if you prefer to fly, I recommend checking Kiwi.com and reading our guide on how to find cheap flights in Fuerteventura.
Organized tours to travel to or from Fuerteventura
Another way to get around the Canary Islands is by taking an organized tour. These excursions are super convenient since you don’t have to worry about transportation. In some cases, admission tickets are included in the tour price. In addition, you’ll have a professional guide who will accompany you and offer all kinds of interesting information.
Some of the most popular boat excursions from Fuerteventura are this trip to Isla de Lobos and this tour to Lanzarote. There are other exciting excursions in Fuerteventura, so I recommend checking out our guide for all the details.
If you’re in Lanzarote, there are also guided tours to Fuerteventura from Lanzarote that I’m sure you’ll love.
