8. Climb the Montaña Roja volcano, one of the most rewarding things to do in Playa Blanca

The 2.5-mile trail leading to Montaña Roja volcano in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, unveils a distinct environment as you ascend. The trail zigzags through lava and volcanic ash, which gives the mountain a desert-like and solitary ambiance with its predominantly black and reddish stone. Allow yourself to be immersed in the captivating hues until you reach the summit, where you can turn around and appreciate the vastness of the Atlantic in contrast.

At the peak, your efforts are rewarded with stunning views: a sprawling 1,100-foot-diameter crater, the peaks of the Ajaches Natural Monument, and panoramic vistas of Lobos Island and Fuerteventura. 10. Los Charcones, one of the most fascinating places to visit in Playa Blanca

These natural pools in Lanzarote come to life as the tide rises, filling the various nooks of the volcanic terrain with water. It’s crucial to time your visit right, considering that during high tide, the pools are submerged beneath the waves. I recommend checking a tide table or consulting a local to determine the optimal time to go. And don’t forget to bring your water shoes to protect your feet from any rocks.

Reaching Los Charcones is a quick 20-minute drive from Playa Blanca’s town center, but finding it can be a bit challenging. The road is rugged, filled with potholes and volcanic rock, and lacks clear markings. I recommend driving to the abandoned hospital near Montaña Roja and continuing west of the Pechiguera Lighthouse to find the best pools. Exploring Los Charcones is surely one of the most delightful and fun things to do in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, so it’s well worth it.
