If you’re not sure where to stay in Lanzarote, you should know that there are different areas you can choose from. Plus, the island has several types of accommodation for every trip and budget, so I’m sure you’ll find an option that suits your preferences.
In this guide, I’ll tell you about the best places to stay in Lanzarote so you can better organize your trip. In addition to sharing the best areas to stay in Lanzarote, I’ll give you some recommendations on the top hotels, villas, and more. So, whether you’re visiting the island as a couple, with family, or as a group of friends, I’ve got you covered.
There are so many cool things to do in Lanzarote, which is why we travel to this island whenever we can. Each of our trips is a bit different, although we always fall back in love with Lanzarote’s volcanic landscapes and traditional Canarian cuisine.
Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of staying in some of the best areas in Lanzarote, so I want to share my top recommendations with you. Below, you can see the 10 best hotels in Lanzarote, Spain:
If you already know what type of hotel you’re looking for, here are the best places to stay in Lanzarote depending on your preferences:
First, Playa Blanca is one of the overall best areas to stay in Lanzarote, especially if you want to be by the beach. The town is also known for its entertainment options, including shops, Lanzarote nightclubs, restaurants, and interesting attractions.
Moreover, Playa Blanca is a good choice if you plan on visiting Timanfaya National Park, which you should since it’s one of the top national parks in Spain. The town is also just a 20-minute drive from Playa Papagayo, one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain.
If you want to connect with nature during your trip, this is one of the best places to stay in Lanzarote. In addition to the beaches, you can head to Los Charcones, an incredible natural pool with turquoise waters. It’s just 5 miles away, so you won’t have to travel too far.
While there are lots of amazing attractions in Playa Blanca, it’s also perfectly located if you want to visit one of the nearby islands. For example, the ferry to Fuerteventura departs from the port in Playa Blanca, so you can spend a day exploring another one of the best Canary Islands.
As for Lanzarote hotels in this area, I recommend the Iberostar Selection Lanzarote Park. It’s one of the best hotels in Playa Blanca and the perfect place to relax after a full day. We’ve also stayed at the Ona Las Casitas, one of the top-rated apartments in Playa Blanca. The property has a swimming pool and a tennis court, plus it’s right by the beach.
Another one of best areas to stay in Lanzarote is Puerto del Carmen. This town appeals to all types of travelers and has a wide selection of hotels at various price points. So, I have no doubt that you’ll find a hotel in Puerto del Carmen for your budget and preferences.
If you stay in this region, you’ll be able to fully enjoy Puerto del Carmen’s beaches, such as Playa Grande, Playa de los Pocillos, and my favorite, Playa Chica. They’re all located close to the town center and boast crystal-clear waters and a family-friendly atmosphere, making them some of the best beaches in Lanzarote.
Puerto del Carmen is also one of the best places to stay in Lanzarote for nightlife, as it has several clubs and party venues. There are also lots of great shops and delicious restaurants in Puerto del Carmen, so there is something for everyone. In fact, one of the best things to do in Puerto del Carmen is to take a Lanzarote dolphin-watching excursion. We took this one, and it was absolutely incredible.
As you can see, this town is one of the best places to stay in Lanzarote for families, couples, or friends, as it has a little bit of everything. The first time we visited, we stayed in an apartment in Puerto del Carmen so we could save money on meals. We decided to stay at the Plus Fariones Apartamentos, which had a pool, balcony rooms, and a great location by the beach.
The second time we visited Puerto del Carmen, we wanted to relax and enjoy some great food. We spent a few nights at Sol Lanzarote, one of the best all-inclusive hotels in Puerto del Carmen that had a buffet and direct access to Matagorda Beach.
Arrecife is the capital of the island, offering lots of nice places to stay in Lanzarote that are both calm and welcoming. If you come here, I recommend starting your adventure with a visit to the Charco de San Ginés, one of Arrecife’s main attractions. To make the most of your day, grab lunch or dinner at one of the nearby restaurants in Arrecife that specialize in fish and other Canarian delicacies.
For those who love history and culture, Arrecife is one of the best areas to stay in Lanzarote. Here, you can find historical sites like the Castillo de San Gabriel and the Puente de Bolas, two ancient defensive fortresses that have been well-preserved.
As for where to spend the night, I recommend the Arrecife Gran Hotel & Spa, one of the top-rated hotels in Arrecife with luxurious facilities and ocean-view rooms. The resort also has several swimming pools, an incredible spa, and an a la carte restaurant.
On the other hand, the Hotel Lancelot is a cheaper place to stay in Lanzarote that still has quality facilities and comfortable rooms. Plus, it’s right in front of El Reducto Beach, and it has an all-inclusive plan that you can book if you want to enjoy yourself without worrying about the final bill. Alternatively, you can stay in one of the nearby apartments to save money and have more flexibility during your trip.
Next, Costa Teguise is a good place to stay in Lanzarote if you want to have an action-packed holiday. Whether you’re visiting with family, friends, or as a couple, you’ll find all kinds of fun things to do in Costa Teguise!
For example, there are several gorgeous beaches in Costa Teguise, such as Playa de las Cucharas and Jablillo Beach, where you can enjoy the surf, sun, and sand. If you’re traveling with children, consider a visit to the Aquapark Costa Teguise, the only water park on the island with waterslides and kid-friendly attractions. For those who like practicing watersports, this is one of the best areas to stay in Lanzarote. Here, you can try scuba diving and discover the hidden treasures beneath the surface of the sea.
Costa Teguise is also a departure point for several Lanzarote excursions, so I recommend this town if you’re wondering where to stay in Lanzarote without a car. There are also lots of attractions and Costa Teguise restaurants that you can easily get to on foot. For example, the Pueblo Marinero is a must-see, and Taberna El Bocadito is an amazing restaurant with affordable prices. Of course, if you do rent a car in Lanzarote, you’ll be able to get around Costa Teguise and its neighboring towns without any trouble.
As for the best hotels in Costa Teguise, I recommend the Paradisus Salinas Lanzarote. It’s known for its luxurious facilities, as well as its lush gardens, which are open to the public. For a more relaxed option, we love the Barceló Lanzarote Active Resort. It’s ideal for families since it has spacious and comfortable rooms, as well as endless activities for all ages.
If you’re traveling as a couple, take a look at the Barceló Teguise Beach, an adults-only resort with an all-inclusive plan. And if you want to feel at home during your trip, consider staying in an apartment in Costa Teguise like the Blue Sea Apartments. We spent a few nights here, and it was a wonderful way to recharge, enjoy some quiet time, and save money on dining out.
If you’re not sure where to stay in Lanzarote but you know you want someplace peaceful, consider Teguise. This small mountain town is in the northern part of the island and was the capital city until the second half of the 19th century. Today, it remains a quiet spot with lots of history and charm, as well as a strategic location near several points of interest in Lanzarote.
Many tourists visit Villa Teguise in one day. You can take this free tour (in Spanish) to see its narrow streets, learn about the local culture, and try some traditional Canarian food at one of the town’s restaurants. Of course, Teguise also has a beautiful natural environment, so it’s one of the nicest parts of Lanzarote.
Among the interesting attractions in Teguise, I recommend visiting its lively craft market, which is known across the island as an excellent place to mingle with locals and pick up unique handicrafts. And if you want to spend the night, there are some lovely hotels in Teguise that maintain the traditional charm and privacy of this small town.
A good option is the Hotel Boutique Palacio Ico, a traditional house from 1690 with authentic Canarian architecture and antique details. If you want something cheaper, consider the B&B La Mimosa, a simple yet comfortable accommodation.
Yaiza is another rural town, but it’s in the southern part of the island, so you can fully immerse yourself in the stunning volcanic landscape of Los Volcanes National Park. While there are lots of cool things to do in Yaiza, most people come here to take a tour of Timanfaya National Park since the Visitor Center is just a 10-minute drive from town. In fact, one of the best trails in Lanzarote, the famous Tremesana Route, starts in Yaiza, so if you like hiking, it’s a must-do.
Besides being a nice part of Lanzarote to stay in, Yaiza is surrounded by other interesting areas that you can add to your itinerary.
First, the traditional fishing town of El Golfo is known for its delicious restaurants, which serve fresh fish daily. They all overlook the sea, so you can admire the beautiful ocean views while you enjoy your meal. El Golfo is also close to some unique volcanic formations like Charco de Los Clicos and Los Hervideros, which I highly recommend visiting if you have time.
Another spot you can visit from Yaiza is La Geria, an area that’s famous for its vineyards. If you like wine, you must book a tasting to try some of the best wines in Lanzarote. We took this one and thoroughly enjoyed sampling some wine and learning about the cultivation methods of this volcanic area.
Overall, Yaiza is one of the best areas to stay in Lanzarote for couples since it’s peaceful and private. It may be a small town, but there are several beautiful hotels in Yaiza where you can spend a restful night. We love Timanfaya Casa Rural, which is located in the heart of town and has a swimming pool, garden, and rooms with mountain views.
Caleta de Famara is another good place to stay in Lanzarote. This small fishing town is in the northern part of the island and is best known for its wonderful Famara Beach. It’s one of the best places to visit in Famara, especially among surfers. If you don’t have experience but want to try something new, consider taking this surfing lesson!
The unique landscape of Caleta de Famara makes it one of the best areas to stay in Lanzarote. Along with the coast, there are surrounding mountains and an authentic atmosphere that remains untouched even as more tourists discover this town. During your visit, I recommend going to the Mirador del Risco de Famara for incredible views. You can even see the La Graciosa island, which is located on the opposite coast.
If you’ve decided that this is where you’ll stay in Lanzarote, you’ll find that there are all kinds of apartments available for rent. I recommend staying in one of them since they’re all well-equipped and boast a good location. Plus, you won’t have to sacrifice comfort and convenience since most of them have facilities like swimming pools and restaurants. For example, at the Surf Lanzarote apartments, you can rent a modern 2-bedroom unit with a living room and private patio.
Getting to La Graciosa from Lanzarote is quite easy, so if you’re going to be on the island for a few days, consider spending a night on another one of the most beautiful Canary Islands.
Thanks to its volcanic origin, the island is full of gorgeous landscapes and unique formations, as well as remote beaches. One of the best things to do in La Graciosa is to go diving and discover the rich biodiversity of its seabed.
Personally, I recommend dedicating at least a day or two to this island so you can make the most of its attractions and natural wonders. And if you need a place to stay, there are several types of accommodation in La Graciosa. For example, the Apartamentos Graciosamar are super comfortable and close to shops and restaurants, making it ideal for families.
During one of our trips, we camped out at Camping El Salado and had a great experience. If you want to stay here, you must bring your own tent, but the campsite has convenient amenities like showers, toilets, and a water fountain.
In addition to all the places to stay in Lanzarote that I’ve already mentioned, there are some other areas that may interest you.
First, Haría is a lovely small town in northern Lanzarote, close to the Jameos del Agua, Cueva de Los Verdes and Mirador del Río. It’s also near the town of Orzola, where you can take the ferry to La Graciosa. If you decide to spend the night in Haría, I recommend staying at the Hotel Emblemático La Casa de Los Naranjos.
Another town in the northern part of the island is Arrieta. It boasts amazing ocean views, so if you want to stay in a quiet Lanzarote hotel by the sea, this is a good place to go. I like the El Charcón Apartments, which are located right on the beach and have all the amenities you need, even for longer stays.
For those who want a less touristy area to stay in Lanzarote, Mácher and Tías are two very good options. They’re both close to Puerto del Carmen, but they’re more inland, offering a calm, rural atmosphere and dreamy mountain landscapes. Most of the accommodations here are rural homes that you can rent out for the night. The Finca Isolina Hotel Boutique is a beautiful 19th century house, with only 6 rooms, while the Los Lirios Hotel Rural is a rustic home away from home with a refreshing swimming pool.
Finally, Puerto Calero is another place to stay in Lanzarote. It’s on the coast, not far from Puerto del Carmen, and it boasts a more laid-back vibe. One of the best hotels in this area is the Secrets Lanzarote Resort, which has a gym, a spa, and several pools and restaurants.
Before deciding where to stay in Lanzarote, you should know what type of accommodation you’re looking for. After all, a family vacation is going to look different from a romantic couples’ holiday. To help you out, I’m sharing the best places to stay in Lanzarote depending on the purpose of your trip.
If you’re on a tighter budget or you have your eyes on a more exclusive hotel in Lanzarote, I recommend booking in advance since those types of accommodations tend to fill up quickly. This is especially true if you’re traveling during peak season, or you want to stay in one of the more touristy areas.
If you’re not picky about the type of hotel, then you’ll have more options at your disposal. Either way, you can find more information about the different accommodations below:
An all-inclusive hotel is a great option if you’re not sure where to stay in Lanzarote. It doesn’t matter if you’re traveling as a couple, with friends, or as a family, as this type of accommodation suits all trips.
When you stay at one of these Lanzarote hotels, you pay a fixed price that includes unlimited food and drinks, and, sometimes, activities as well. It’s an excellent choice if you want to budget your trip ahead of time and spend a few relaxing days on the island without worrying about the final bill.
There are different types of all-inclusive hotels, too. For example, some resorts offer a wide variety of activities and entertainment programs, while others have all kinds of games for children and families. There are other hotels that are designed for relaxation and well-being, offering massages and spa facilities. And of course, some of the resorts are for adults only, so guests must be at least 18 years old to stay there.
If you want some recommendations for all-inclusive hotels in Lanzarote, I’ll tell you that I love the Aequora Lanzarote Suites. It’s just a few feet from Playa de los Pocillos and has five pools, a nightclub, and activities for the kids. In my opinion, it’s one of the best all-inclusive hotels in Puerto del Carmen for families.
On the other hand, the Hotel Mirador Papagayo is an amazing all-inclusive resort in Playa Blanca. It’s right on Playa de las Coloradas and has beautiful rooms with private balconies and terraces. Of course, you can find other places to stay in Lanzarote by checking out our guide to the top all-inclusive hotels.
For travelers who want more flexibility, an apartment is a good place to stay in Lanzarote. In fact, when we travel with friends or family, we often rent an apartment since they’re quite comfortable and often cheaper than a hotel.
Many of the top-rated apartments in Lanzarote have full kitchens, so you can prepare your own meals and save money on dining out. That said, lots of apartments have additional facilities like swimming pools, bars, and restaurants, so it’s not too different from being at a resort. Some even have spas and wellness centers, so you can totally disconnect and recharge.
In addition to being a cheap place to stay in Lanzarote, apartment rentals can be found in just about every part of the island. For example, there are beautiful apartments in Puerto del Carmen, with my favorite being the Ereza Apartamentos Los Hibiscos, located just minutes from Playa Grande and Avenida de las Playas.
If you’re looking for apartments in Playa Blanca, I recommend Casas del Sol, which we stayed at during one of our trips. These apartments are centrally located and offer excellent value for money. Also, the Blue Sea Apartments are some of the best apartments in Costa Teguise, with gorgeous facilities that rival the nicest hotels in Lanzarote.
Over in Arrecife, there are lots of great options, but my top choice is the Apartamentos Islamar Arrecife. Located right in front of El Reducto Beach, these rentals have private terraces with jacuzzi tubs, so they’re ideal for a relaxing getaway.
In Caleta de Famara, most of the accommodations are apartments. I like the Surf Lanzarote apartments, which feel like a home away from home. And over in La Graciosa, it’s a similar situation since the island doesn’t have large hotels and resorts. The Cuesta del Salado Apartments are one of the most popular accommodations in La Graciosa, and they’re great for a short trip.
Now, for something luxurious and intimate, you should stay in one of the best villas in Lanzarote. This type of accommodation is perfect for those looking for a good place to stay in Lanzarote as a couple or who are simply craving a peaceful and private vacation.
Without a doubt, the most amazing villas are in Playa Blanca, so you should make your reservation in advance if you want to stay here. VIK Coral Beach has some of the most luxurious villas in town, and they’re perfect if you’re traveling as a family or group of friends.
Another good option is Villas Alondra in Puerto del Carmen. If you stay here, you can enjoy a central location while also avoiding the tourist crowds and noise. The villas have 2-3 bedrooms as well as en-suite bathrooms with hydromassage baths.
On the other hand, Villas Reina in Costa Teguise are located just a few feet from one of the best beaches in the area, Playa de las Cucharas. These exclusive villas feature a private pool and a garden with seating and a barbecue grill, making them one of the best places to stay in Lanzarote for a holiday with friends.
If you’re looking for a cheap place to stay in Lanzarote and you don’t mind an unconventional accommodation, consider camping on the island. This is something we’ve done, and it was one of the best ways to save money and fully immerse ourselves in the dreamy landscapes.
Camping in Lanzarote is permitted as long as you do so in the designated areas, which are currently just two: Camping Papagayo and Camping El Salado in La Graciosa. The former is open year-round and located on one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain, Papagayo Beach. The latter is more remote and does not allow gas cooking or camper stoves, so it offers a more authentic experience.
Also, if you’re thinking of renting a motorhome or campervan in Lanzarote, be aware that the only place you can park it for the night is at Camping Papagayo. This campsite also has showers, restrooms, and a water supply, so it’s a more comfortable option.
Finally, if you’re trying to travel cheaply, there are some things you can do to save money while exploring the island. Fortunately, you don’t have to go far from the main points of interest to find cheap places to stay in Lanzarote. That said, you should definitely make a reservation in advance so you can get the best price and secure your spot before rooms fill up.
When we’re traveling on a budget, one of our favorite places to stay is the Hotel Club Siroco. It’s one of the best cheap hotels in Lanzarote, specifically in the center of Costa Teguise, and it has spacious and cozy rooms.
For something with a bit more luxury, the Aequora Lanzarote Suites is one of the best places to stay in Lanzarote for families, and it won’t break the bank. This resort has five pools, waterslides for the kids, and an excellent quality-to-price ratio.
And of course, if you’re seeking adventure, you can always grab your tent and go camping on the island at one of the designated sites. We always have a great time camping, and it gives us a chance to photograph the Milky Way in the dark, starry skies.
That’s everything you need to know about where to stay in Lanzarote. As you can see, this island offers tons of wonderful options for every type of traveler, so you won’t have any issues finding your ideal accommodation.
Stay safe and enjoy your time in Lanzarote!
